# Tetheract > Tetheract is an independently constrained physical-operation layer between AI or high-level intent and real machines. An AI agent proposes an action, independent checks test it against authority rules and physical limits, and a human operator approves, edits, rejects or takes manual control. Every step is recorded as signed evidence. Tetheract is simulation only today: it does not control real hardware and makes no safety, certification or compliance claims. - Status: simulation only. Tetheract does not control real hardware. Version 0.9.0 of the software runs against simulated machines. - First machine class: lab automation. The first real test device is planned to be a motorized linear stage, operated under supervision, only after a qualification checklist and an independent review. No independent reviewer has been named yet. - Later machine classes (not started): light industrial PLCs, desktop robot arms and gantries, and facility equipment. - Collaboration model: the AI is an untrusted proposer. Checks run independently of the AI. Only commands a human operator approves are executed. The operator can approve, edit, reject or take manual control. - Sign-in: passkeys only (platform biometric or hardware security key), with a fresh passkey check bound to each consequential action. No passwords, one-time codes, email or SMS recovery. - Evidence: every step produces a signed, hash-chained receipt on a shared timeline that records who acted, when and why. - Deployment: runs locally and listens on the loopback address by default. There is no hosted Tetheract service. - Not claimed: no safety rating, certification or regulatory compliance. No customers, partners, pricing or performance figures are published. - Source code: private. ## Pages - [Overview](https://tetheract.com/): What Tetheract is, how the agent-human loop works, who it is for, what exists today and what it is not. - [How it works](https://tetheract.com/how-it-works): The layers of the system, what each check does, how operators decide, how evidence is recorded, and the gates before any real hardware test. - [FAQ](https://tetheract.com/faq): Direct answers to common questions about status, hardware, approvals, sign-in, certification, pricing and source code. ## Markdown versions - [Overview, Markdown](https://tetheract.com/index.md) - [How it works, Markdown](https://tetheract.com/how-it-works.md) - [FAQ, Markdown](https://tetheract.com/faq.md)
